The sculpture addresses the need for organ donation, its aesthetic is designed to be symbolic but visually beautiful to view. The empty candles echo the four-to-six-hour deadline for transplantation of the heart and lungs.
The symbolic visual of the candle burning in front of the sculpture firstly give a visual of the four-to-six-hour deadline but also represents a person’s life sadly passing due to death but with the possibility of the igniting so many more lives via organ donation, enabling to keep those other candles burning.
The base of the sculpture is made from repurposed wooden boards and shaped to match the blood and organ donation symbol, this is a monument to the brave donors out there and their selflessness by giving their organs to sustain future lives.
